Helping You Succeed in the MRCGP SCA
Dr Erwin Kwun, Award winning GP

I know how daunting the MRCGP SCA can feel, especially for international medical graduates. It’s not just an exam—it’s the culmination of years of hard work, sacrifices and dreams. When self-doubt creeps in, it can feel like an impossible hurdle.
If you’ve ever struggled to manage your time, stay confident in unpredictable scenarios, or felt the weight of sleepless nights and financial pressure, I want you to know one thing: you are not alone and I can help.
My Journey: From shy to SCA Mentor
If someone had told me back in sixth form that I’d one day be mentoring hundreds of GP trainees and teaching communication skills, I would’ve laughed nervously (or just stayed silent). Why? Because I was painfully shy. In fact, I was once awarded “Shiest Student of the Year.”
For me, communication didn’t come naturally. I had to learn it the hard way. I remember the first time I stood on a stage, my heart racing, my voice shaking, barely able to get through my words. That moment taught me something: if I stayed in my comfort zone, I’d never fulfill my potential.
So, I worked on myself. Over the years, I learned how to build confidence, communicate effectively and thrive under pressure. When I became a doctor, I realised these skills were essential.
Today, my team and I, we’ve helped hundreds of GP trainees. With Consultation Blueprint we’ve transformed the success rates of international medical graduates sitting the SCA from 50% to 80%. I understand what it takes to overcome personal challenges and come out stronger.
Prioritising Health & Wellbeing
I’ll be honest with you: my journey into medicine wasn’t what I expected. When I started training, I thought I was ready for the challenges ahead. I was wrong.
The late finishes, skipped breaks and relentless night shifts were one thing but it was the weight of everything else that hit me the hardest. Managing the endless portfolio deadlines, preparing for exams and constantly feeling like I needed to prove myself. It all became suffocating.
I didn’t speak up. I didn’t set boundaries. I thought that saying “yes” to everything was just what you did. But slowly, the cracks started to show. I felt drained, frustrated, and stuck in a cycle I couldn’t seem to break.
Then one day, I had to ask myself: What’s the point of dedicating my life to helping others if I can’t even take care of myself?
That was my turning point. I realised that burnout wasn’t something I had to accept—it was something I could prevent. I started setting boundaries. I learned to say ‘no’. I stopped seeing asking for help as a weakness and started seeing it as the ultimate strength.
That decision changed my life.
Here’s what I know now: you don’t have to sacrifice your health and happiness to succeed. The stress of portfolios, exams and work doesn’t have to define you. Every GP trainee deserves to thrive—not just survive.
That’s why I’ve made it my mission to help doctors like you navigate the chaos, prioritise your wellbeing and build a career that works for you, not against you.
Because you can’t pour from an empty cup. And trust me, the best version of you—the one you’ve been striving for—isn’t far away.

Want to Pass SCA
Can I ask you something?
- Do you ever feel like you’re constantly second-guessing yourself, wondering if you’ll ever be ready for the SCA?
- Does it feel like no matter how much effort you put in, the results just aren’t showing up?
- Are the financial strain and emotional stress starting to take a toll—not just on your confidence, but on your relationships too?
- Do you feel stuck, unsure of how to improve, and worried that another failure might make your dream slip further away?
If you nodded “yes” to any of these, I want you to know something: you’re not alone.
I’ve worked with countless GP trainees who’ve felt exactly the same way. But here’s the thing—those feelings don’t have to hold you back. They don’t define you.
What if, instead, we could turn those doubts into confidence? Those struggles into strengths? I’d love to show you the steps to get there inside SCA Blueprint.
